COVID-19 Early Impact Quick Survey – RESULTS Southeastern CT’s Arts & Cultural Organizations, Businesses & Artists
Background
The Southeastern CT Cultural Coalition distributed a brief survey on March 14, 2020 to our Partners and other stakeholders (2,000+ emails) to gather regional information about the status of operations, anticipated economic impact, and business areas most affected by the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The survey began just two days after the governor’s executive order prohibiting all gatherings across the state with more than 250 people through April 30, 2020. 41 submissions were received by the closing of this early impact survey on March 17, 2020 providing valuable insight to our organization, funders, and state and local leaders.
Early Economic Impact (based on 41 respondents)
- $2.7M in estimated lost revenue from March 13 to April 30, 2020
- 47% estimated loss as $10,000 or more
- 18% estimated loss as $1,000 – $9,999
- 29% estimated loss as $0 – $1,000
- 6% unable to estimate amount
Reasons:
- loss of ticket sales/admission fees or program fees
- loss of sales of products/services
- loss of fundraiser revenue due to cancellation/postponement
- loss of grant funding due to unfulfilled programming
- loss of nonrefundable deposits/contract obligations
54% of respondents anticipated an impact on staff due to temporary closing or event/program cancellations
