Cultural Coalition Outreach & Impact Coordinator

Schedule/Hours: Part-time, 20 hours per week (flexible with majority hours M-F 9am-5pm, some evenings and weekends).

Compensation/Duration: $25/hour ($26K annual), temporary contractor fixed-term role for a pilot program of twelve months beginning in January 2022 with the possibility of extension/expansion of position.

About the Cultural Coalition:

The Cultural Coalition is an independent, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, with the mission to improve the economy, vitality and quality of life in eastern Connecticut by supporting the arts, cultural and creative community. The Cultural Coalition is a free membership organization that includes a diverse cross section of nonprofit and for-profit individuals, businesses, groups and organizations. The Coalition serves 550+ registered partners and northeastern CT entities, including sole proprietors, artists, historic sites, museums, libraries, galleries, creative businesses, cultural attractions and arts centers.

The Cultural Coalition is the Designated Regional Service Organization (DRSO) for 42 towns for the Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA), part of a statewide network of service providers that serve as regional field offices to support the creative economy and COA’s goals, programs and services.

Position Description:

The Cultural Coalition seeks an Outreach & Impact Coordinator to plan and execute outreach efforts to arts and cultural entities not currently being served in eastern Connecticut. The Outreach & Impact Coordinator will work with the Cultural Coalition to help expand, strengthen and deepen the Cultural Coalition’s community engagement and impact.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with the Assistant Director and other Cultural Coalition contractors (Funding Booster Program Manager, Northeast Region Coordinator, Norwich Arts & Culture Coordinator), the Outreach & Impact Coordinator will:

  • identify arts & cultural organizations, artists, and creative networks in eastern CT that are not currently being directly served by the Cultural Coalition, and strategize innovative ways to connect with and support them, especially BIPOC creative community members.
  • enhance community engagement and organizational impact through support of existing and planned activities in 2022 – Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 Study, Make Music Day, Thrive 2022, DEI/AR Series, Culture Connects, Funding Booster Program, and Municipal Services/Cultural Districts/ARPA funds.
  • create and implement new activities to help expand the creative community in eastern CT, foster meaningful impact, and provide access to resources, especially BIPOC creative community members.
    • assist emerging artists and creators to access locations or venues to present, showcase and/or develop their works.
    • reimagine the PULSE program and build upon the CT Office of the Arts’ Bridge Builder program.
  • plan communication strategies and utilize social media, including IG, FB and other platforms to help develop relevant messaging and outreach campaigns for new and existing Cultural Coalition activities.
  • assist with the creation of content about the organization’s economic, social and community impacts and the arts & cultural organizations, artists, creative businesses and municipal constituents we serve.
  • build new and strengthen existing relationships with those that support the region’s creative community.
  • identify and create leads for sponsorships, general donations, ticketed events, attendees (workshops and events) to support development efforts by Executive and Assistant Director.
  • represent the Cultural Coalition’s mission, vision, and core values – connect, collaborate, communicate and dedication to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
  • provide written and verbal updates to Cultural Coalition’s Executive Director and staff.

Candidate Profile:

Strong candidates will have a minimum of 5 years professional work experience, with proven results in community relations and/or community development, and experience in program or project management.       Arts and culture administration experience is a plus.

  • Strong proficiency with major social media platforms – including experience with strategizing & planning campaigns, creating content & images, measuring impact & tracking metrics, and adapting outreach approach to trends and findings.
  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with basic communication tools required – including experience with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Google apps, Zoom, email delivery/marketing products (such as ConstantContact) and survey/polling/input gathering products (such as SurveyMonkey, EmailMeForm).

Environmental and Working Conditions:

The contractor must have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection, use their own phone, and will be required to provide their own personal vehicle and driver’s license. The Outreach & Impact Coordinator will work primarily in office settings either remotely or on-site at the Cultural Coalition’s Norwich office. Some travel is required for public or in-person meetings in eastern CT following pandemic safety protocols. Travel time is included in hours compensation. Remote/home office primary workspace is preferred, with the option of using a shared co-work office and meeting space at Foundry66, 66 Franklin Street, Norwich.
