City of Norwich Seeks Inaugural Poet Laureate
UPDATE: Applications Accepted Through June 30, 2020
The City of Norwich, through a partnership with Norwich Creates, is seeking to appoint the City’s first Poet Laureate. The honorary position of the City of Norwich Poet Laureate was established in 2017 by a resolution of the City Council under the initiative of former Mayor Deb Hinchey. As the City’s representative poet, the Poet Laureate will serve as an ambassador for poetry by promoting and encouraging the appreciation of creative expression through poetry and literary arts activities.
The Poet Laureate writes and shares his or her work in public appearances, digital media, workshops, and inspires the community to find and share their own creative voice. The selected poet will be introduced in Fall 2020.
A Poet Laureate Selection Committee, consisting of five representatives of local middle school, high school and college English departments, Otis Library, and Norwich Creates, has been formed to assist in the selection.
