Calling all CT Artists and Creative Entrepreneurs!

How would you like to attend workshops on business fundamentals and marketing strategies for artists, taught by experts in the field, and all for FREE?

This spring, the Southeastern CT Cultural Coalition and the CT Office of the Arts are partnering with MASS MoCA’s acclaimed Assets for Artists program for the second time to offer FREE business and marketing workshops for Connecticut-based artists.

Space is limited and seats will be filled on a first-come basis. If you’re interested in any of the workshops listed below, email Briana Halpin (bhalpin@massmoca.org) by May 1 with your name, street address, web address for your art practice / business, and workshop requests.

Artist in Business w/ Dee Boyle-Clapp
Wednesday, May 10 | 9:30am – 5pm | NEW HARTFORD, CT

Building on her 25 years of experience in the arts, Dee Boyle-Clapp now directs the Arts Extension Service at UMASS. In this training, she will introduce the elements of a business plan and information helpful for running your artist-based business. Through a mix of instruction and guided activities you will learn how to create a series of attainable business goals that shape the future of your art-based business, including how to describe your work, hire outside experts, and handle financial details.

Monday, May 15, 1 – 6pm (group workshop)
Tuesday, May 16 (individual 30-min meetings for select artists) | GROTON, CT

This is a TWO-PART event. Based on applications, artists will be invited to participate in Day 1 only or in Days 1 & 2. (Artists are required to attend Day 1 in order to participate in Day 2. However, only a small number of artists selected for the group training on Day 1 will be offered individual time on Day 2.)

Day 1: May 15 — Group Workshop
Jessica will help visual artists and craftspeople gain a better understanding of how to present their work, how to identify their target audience, and how to create a detailed marketing plan while building the confidence to implement it.

Day 2: May 16 — 1-on-1 “Doctor’s Hours”
Selected artists will be invited to meet individually (for approximately 30 minutes) with Jessica Burko for an in-depth discussion of specific marketing questions and concerns, and to review their arts marketing strategies.

Get Press Ready: PR for Artists w/ Sarah Platanitis
Saturday, June 3 | 11am – 4pm | Killingly, CT

Sarah Platanitis is a lifestyle journalist and media educator focused on public relations tools for artists. In this workshop, participants will develop marketing and PR savvy, learn to work more effectively with journalists, improve their websites, and gain skills related to presenting and interviewing.
